Poovar Coastal Police Station was opened on 13.08.2018 vide G.O (Rt) No. 998/2017/Home Dated. 21st April 2017.As per Government notification S.R.O No. 238/2017- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the Kerala Police Act. 2011 (8 of 2011), read with clause(s) of section 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. 1973( Central Act 2 of 1974) and in partial modification of the notification issued as G.O (Rt.) No. 202/2011/Home dated 22- January -2011, published as S.R.O No. 55/2011 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No. 141 dated 22nd January- 2011 in so far as it relates to the area of Coastal Police Station Vizhinjam, the Government of Kerala hereby declared that the building No. PP/VIII/1B of Poovar Gramapanchayath situated in Re-survey No. 374 in Block No. 19 of Poovar Village shall be a police station known as "Coastal Police Station, Poovar".

The inauguration of the Police Station was done by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Kerala Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan, through video conference. The function presided over by Sri. M. Vincent, the Hon'ble MLA of Kovalam constituency. The welcome address was done by Sri. Harikumar.B DySP Neyyattinkara. Sri. C. Hareendran, hon'ble, MLA, Parassala. Sri. Ansalan. hon'ble MLA, Neyyattinkara, Smt. R. Salooja, hon'ble President Parassala Block Panchayath, Smt. Ajithakumari, President, Poovar Grama panchayath were also attended the inaugural function. Poovar Coastal Police Station is situated in building No. PP/VII/1B of Poovar Gramapanchayath and Re-survey No.374 in Block No. 19 of Poovar Village.

Poovar is basically a fishing village. The estuary there is one among the natural wonders where the Lake, River, Sea and Beach meet the land at Pozhikkara. Poovar Pozhikara Beach and Neyyar boating Service are the important places in Poovar Police Station limit. So many tourists from different parts of the country and also from other countries are visiting these places every day.
