Ponmudi Police Station was opened by Koliyacode Sri. N. Krishnan Nair, MLA Vamanapuram Constituency on 27-07-1988, in the presence of Sri. K.V. Rajagopalan Nair, IPS Inspector General of Police, state as per G.O (Rt) No.3583/88 dated 16-07-1988. Ponmudi is the highest place in Thiruvananthapuram District. Ponmudi is a very popular hill station. The Mountain has a relatively low altitude of 1100m, and it is easily reachable. The landscape of Ponmudi is an interspersing of valleys and hills with forestland and plantations. Ponmudi is having an extensive importance of biodiversity, which plays a major role in maintaining the ecological balance of the area.The Station Jurisdiction consists of the Reserve forest area in Thennoor village with Kulachikkara, Ponmudi, Panayamponmudi and Puthucadu Estate. Panchayath &ndash Peringammala.

The border Police Stations of Ponmudi PS are Vithura, Palode, Ambasamudram , (Tamil Nadu State), Kulathupuzha .
